The All Season All Rounder Catamaran Dinghy
The SPINDRIFT 3m poly dinghy – by Finn Kayaks .
The ideal Car Topper, Tender, and Fishing boat… it really is the perfect craft for the whole family.
The SPINDRIFT is a high-performing, user-friendly, low-maintenance , dinghy that works equally well with an outboard , oars or electric motor.
The Stable, Twin Hull, provides passengers with the ability to safely stand and move about without capsizing. Perfect for fishing, crabbing, handling Cray pots, cartopping or as a highly reliable Tender. The central bench seat makes for a perfect fishing position – facing the gunwale . This position is also better for conversing with the skipper and allows you to trim your weight for the boats best performance
Its clever Dinghy concept incorporates the stability and efficiency of a catamaran hull – which also means it doesn’t require a lot of horsepower. Used by most with 6hp or under to allow it to be unnecessary to have a Recreational Skippers Ticket [a great introduction to boating and practical training for future upgrades ]
The ride is soft [better for bad backs] , quiet [no metallic clanging] and dry [ tall sheerline deflects chop and spray]. Cats ‘ride’ over waves , rather than the uncomfortable rocking associated with single hull boats. Also less ‘free surface effect’ with any water in bilge – adding to stability and safety.
2 Tow points are fitted , to tow behind Parent vessel . By adding a bridle, It helps the boat track. The efficient cat – hulls are light to tow and easily knife through chop in the wake wash.
Transport is easy with the Spindrift. – Designed to -fit inside most Box trailers [see pic’s]
– fit inside most Ute trays
– flat / flush gunwale to slide onto roof racks [with-in standard 1.27m rack width]
– lightweight , easy to lift, made easier to move about with [ popular] fold down wheel sets
Motor well – though reducing a little of the ‘open floorspace’ a motor well is a critical safety feature that prevents back flooding over the stern – due to either – rapid de-powering or reversing / launching backwards into chop, [ to allow prop clearance before starting outboard]. It also allows you to launch / lower off a jetty , boardwalk or high deck / rooftop of parent vessel and ‘float’ the stern out without swamping
Safety is paramount with Finn – craft are built to Australian standards 1799.1 as our minimum baseline . [which includes – Buoyancy , Load Capacity , Stability , Max Power , Fittings and the required load stresses. Spindrift dinghies with Level Flotation are unsinkable [with max load capacity ] and can exceed tough new commercial safety regulations [NSCV].
- NSCV – National Standard for Commercial Vessel – Level Buoyancy Class 4 Hire & Drive *option
- NSCV – Survival Craft Dinghy -[meets compliance] -‘ capable of sustaining the lives of persons in distress from the time of abandoning the vessel’
